BizTEC 2016 was officially launched during the grand opening event that was held on April 4th at the Technion. This is the 12th year of Israel’s leading annual technological entrepreneurship competition, established at 2004.
Over 200 applicants, alumni, mentors and partners took part in the event, that opened with an over view of BizTEC by Danielle Bar Shalev, BizTEC’s Executive Director, followed by opening remarks by Rafi Nave, Head of entrepreneurship at the Technion. The main lecture was given by the serial entrepreneur, Dov Moran, the inventor of the Disk-on-key. Moran shared his journey at the entrepreneurship world, and gave the young entrepreneurs great tips towards their new path.
Janna Tennebaum-Katan, Co-founder of Peekaboo – BizTEC’s 2015 winners, motivated the teams with a few words about the establishment of Peekaboo and her experience in BizTEC . Gil Hoizman, BizTEC’s Chief mentor, also wished all the applicants good luck on their new way.
The event was sealed with the announcement of the teams that were chosen to proceed to the competition’s next stage. 115 teams applied to this year’s competition from all across the country, but only 30 were chosen to join the 6 other teams that were qualified for BizTEC after participating in previous competitions.
During the next three months the teams will go through several workshops and mentoring sessions. Only 12 team will proceed to the intensive Summer Program, that will end with the grand Demo-Day, where the teams will have the opportunity to pitch their innovation in front of a large audience of investors, V.C’s, Incubators, etc. The winning team will be announced and awarded the $10K prize!
